Sustainability Diploma

  • Environmental Science

  • Economics, Math of Sustainability, Personal Finance, or Public Policy

  • Must complete 2 sustainability-designated courses (e.g. Marine Science, Nature Writing)

  • By participating in one or more of the following, elective coursework may be supplemented or, in some cases, waived:

    • Demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities

    • Sustainability-themed project work that also meets assignment criteria in core courses

    • Sustainability-themed senior year internship or other outward-facing, hands-on experience

    • Sustainability-themed summer, global studies or intersession courses

  • Junior Thesis must include a strong 'sustainability thread'

World Languages Diploma

  • 4 credits (8 semesters) of language study in a target language

  • 1.5 credits (3 semesters) in courses in the World Language or Classics programs, or as approved by Diploma Coordinator

  • Students can reduce elective coursework to 0.5 credits (1 semester) by completing a Junior Thesis focused on a topic arranged in conjunction with the Diploma Coordinator

  • Participation in community service in the target language for 2 semesters or at least one summer immersion experience

  • Presentation of Learning in the Target Language at the end of the student's senior year

Classics Diploma

  • 4 credits (8 semesters) of language study

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) in Advanced Composition

  • 1.5 credits (3 semesters) in courses in the Classics program, or as approved by the Diploma Coordinator

  • Students can reduce elective coursework to 0.5 credits (1 semester) by completing a Junior Thesis focused on a topic arranged in conjunction with the Diploma Coordinator

Performing Arts

Instrumental (Strings, Band)

  • 2 credits (4 semesters) of beginner ensembles

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) of advanced ensembles

  • Music Theory course or exam

Vocal (Chorus)

  • 2 credits (4 semesters) of Concert Choir

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) of Tiger Tones or Advanced Voice

  • Music Theory course or exam

Music Technology

  • 2 credits (4 semesters) of beginner Music Technology

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) of advanced Music Technology

  • Music Theory course or exam

Dance

  • 4 credits (8 semesters) of three out of seven dance styles

Theatre Arts (Performing)

  • 0.5 credits (1 semester) of Voice in Speech

  • 0.5 credits (1 semester) of Acting Craft

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) of Music Theatre Workshop

Theatre Arts (Technical Design)

  • 0.5 credits (1 semester) of Design for Theatre

  • 1 credit (2 semesters) of Music Theatre Workshop

Visual Arts

  • 3 credits (6 semesters) in Visual Arts, including both 2D and 3D study.

  • 2 credits (4 semesters) of arts-related coursework

  • Portfolio Development course in Senior Year (satisfies a credit requirement)

Completion of a Junior Thesis on a topic arranged in conjunction with the Visual Arts Diploma Coordinator, or summer/intersession coursework, can satisfy credit requirements with approval.

Performing Arts

Instrumental (Strings, Band)

  • Junior or Senior internship should be related to the student’s field in the arts

  • Audition and participation in CMEA All-State Ensemble for vocalists/instrumentalists or other honors ensembles

Vocal (Chorus)

  • Junior or Senior internship should be related to the student’s field in the arts

  • Audition and participation in CMEA All-State Ensemble for vocalists/instrumentalists or other honors ensembles (National or Regional ACDA or OAKE-Kodaly choirs)

Music Technology

  • Junior or Senior internship should be related to the student’s field in the arts

  • 2 Presentations of Music Media or Composition showing evidence of work

Dance

  • Intense focus on technical training (Freshman & Sophomore year), collaborative choreography (Junior year) and solo performance (Senior year)

  • Knowledge of Dance History & Dance Terminology (Sophomore/Junior years)

  • Dynamic Execution (Junior and Senior year)

Theatre Arts (Performing)

  • 4 Main Stage Productions (substitute the Contemporary Plays & Playwriting class (1 Semester) or Showcase Productions as are available)

  • Junior or Senior internship should be related to the student’s field in the arts

  • Audition and participation in National High School Musical Theater Awards for musical theater students

Theatre Arts (Technical Design)

  • 4 Main Stage Productions (or substitute Showcase Productions as are available) culminating in Assistant Director or Student Stage Manager

  • Junior or Senior internship should be related to the student’s field in the arts

Visual Arts

  • A Visual Arts Digital Portfolio which includes the following:

    • 6 artworks that demonstrate mastery in any areas of the visual arts

    • 10 artworks that are thematically connected and demonstrate sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision

    • An Artist’s Statement

  • A student exhibition of at least six artworks and a Written Reflection of the exhibited artwork.

  • Performance or Exhibition: Final presentation that best represents the body of work.

  • Narrative: Narrative during the performance or exhibition

  • Written: Written summary, journal or program notes showing discovery process
