Transfer Credits

Greenwich Country Day School honors comparable coursework students have done prior to their transfer admission.

The GCDS Registrar's Office grants credit for work done at another institution to each admitted transfer student on an individual basis after careful evaluation. While GCDS does not audit transcripts prior to application to determine eligibility, the descriptions below should be helpful in determining which courses may transfer.

GCDS does not list transfer credits on school-issued transcripts.

Which courses are eligible for credit?

Students may receive credit for courses taken in a full-time program of study at an accredited secondary school, provided that they:

  • Took courses comparable to those offered in GCDS's curriculum.

  • Earned grades of "C" (or the equivalent) or better.

In order to be transferable, a course does not have to match a currently existing GCDS course; however, courses should cover topics that are broadly defined as part of the curriculum at GCDS. A course can be transferred only as a generic course affiliated with a field of study.

Generally, credits will transfer if they’re from an approved course, taken at an approved secondary school, and completed with a grade of C or better.

Pass/fail and ungraded courses may receive credit, as long as the school provides a written statement that the mark represents a grade of C or better.

Which courses are not eligible for credit?

Unfortunately, we are unable to grant credit for certain accomplishments. GCDS does not typically award credit for:

  • Online or distance education courses

  • Technical or vocational courses

  • Work done prior to admission in an isolated term, semester or quarter at another secondary school, unless the school from which you are transferring has granted credit for that work

  • Credit gained by accelerating in an academic year at another school

  • Advanced placement exam (AP/IB) results, or any credit earned by examination, even when credited by the school from which you transfer

Process

  1. Admissions Office receives final transcript and uploads into SIS

  2. Registrar's Office reviews transcript and recommends credit transfers

  3. Academic Dean approves/responds to recommendations

  4. Registrar's Office finalizes credit transfers
