# Incomplete Grade Resolution

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Incomplete grades will turn to an "F" 30 days after reports are published** unless an alternate plan is communicated to the Registrar's Office.
{% endhint %}

An “I” (incomplete) grade is used when the instructor is not prepared to give a final grade for the course because of some justifiable delay in the student’s completion of specific coursework. A final grade is submitted to the Registrar's Office by the instructor (using the form below) after the student’s completed work has been graded, provided the work was done within the agreed time frame, as set by the instructor.

In the event that the work is not completed within the agreed timeframe, and no grade is reported 30 days after reports are published, a grade of “F” replaces the “I” on the student’s academic transcript.

#### Recommended Workflow

* [ ] Prior to submitting the incomplete grade status, provide ample communication to the student with deadlines and opportunities to resolve the incomplete before grade entry closes.
* [ ] If the incomplete is still unresolved when grades are entered, include a comment which indicates the outstanding work.
* [ ] Communicate to the student (and their advisor) with the plan for resolving the incomplete grade, and the deadline for doing so. Copy the Academic Dean and Registrar's Office.
* [ ] When the deadline arrives, or when the missing work is submitted is graded, submit the revised grade to the Registrar's Office for republishing.
